ABOUT

Growing up in the city of Suffolk, Bennett’s Creek area, where we started my road in public service. I was a member of the Driver Volunteer Fire Depart and Bennett’s Creek Rescue Squad. I served in many positions.

After attending Christopher Newport University, leaving to start my dream job, I began my career in the fire service in Elizabeth City Fire department. After two plus years of service to the residences in Elizabeth City, I was hired by the city of Chesapeake where I served a nearly 20 years. I served at a Firefighter, Firefighter/Paramedic, Acting Officer, Acting EMS supervisor, receiving service achievement honors, good conduct medal, and distinguished service medal.

I left the fire service to focus on the family business in the green industry. My wife and I started a small landscape maintenance business, in 2002 we made the decision to take it to the next level and purchased a U.S. Lawns franchisee. Since starting with U.S. Lawns we have expanded to three (3) office locations and nearly eighty (80) team members. Steve has serviced on the advisory committee for several years, was inducted to the U.S. Lawns Hall of Fame in 2014. Teana and Stephen have grown to one of the top 5 franchisees in the country.

My wife and I have a real estate holding company, that purchases and leases both commercial and residential properties in Hampton Roads.

COMMIUNITY SERVICE

Community Service has been a guiding principle throughout my life, reflected in my various roles of leadership and involvement:

As President of Fame Boosters, a non-profit organization, I spearheaded efforts to facilitate fundraising activities, enabling parents to afford travel expenses for cheerleading. Our most successful projects included organizing and operating concession stands at prominent venues such as Harbor Park, Norfolk Scope, and Richmond Raceway.

In my capacity as President of the Runningman Homeowners Association (HOA), I played a pivotal role in the self-management of a community comprising 596 homes. Beginning as the landscape committee chair, I progressed to Vice-President before assuming the role of President, overseeing the efficient functioning of our neighborhood.

Similarly, within The Commons HOA, I was elected to the Board and currently serve as President, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents and maintaining the integrity of our community.

Additionally, I am proud to contribute to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes as a Board Member, where I am committed to fostering values of integrity and faith within the athletic community.

Through these experiences, I am deeply invested in serving the needs of our community and am dedicated to bringing positive change to Newport News.
